My approach to transformative wellness is made up of three elements: empowerment, alignment & embodiment.
Empowerment is the spark, the beginning of where you decide to make a lasting change in your life. This often begins with releasing the idea that healthy habits should emerge from a well of willpower and discipline. You don’t need another set of rules to follow. Habits don’t stick when they feel like obligations or restrictions. They do when they are born of power. Become the authority in your own life. Take your health into your own hands. Choose to align your actions with your goals and priorities. Give yourself permission to release the stories and identities that keep you unwell. Wherever you are now? That is a result of the story you have written, or have allowed others to write for you. Where you go depends on what story you want to start writing now. Transforming your health doesn’t require more discipline. It requires a devotion to yourself, to choosing to act in ways that support how you want to look, feel and live.
Alignment is where you learn to stop fighting your body and work with it instead. Health is about more than just exercising and eating well. You also need to nourish your nervous system, hormones, emotions, moods and mindset. But this doesn’t mean you can’t care about your physique - we all get one body in this life, and we should be able to both look and feel amazing in it! So we don’t sacrifice physical goals like weight loss or muscle definition - we just find a better way to get there, one that ensures our results actually last. I teach a foundation of body awareness and connection to the inherent wisdom that lies within. Intuition is innate - all of our bodies know what they need. Listening to that intuition, however, is a skill that many of us have forgotten. My approach begins with a return to this place. This insight reduces the risk of injury as you challenge yourself during workouts, it gives you feedback on when your body needs to rest and recover - so you work smarter, not harder - and it allows you to really see how the foods you consume affect you.
The practices I teach include:
Yoga, Pilates and fusions of the two modalities to develop strength, tone & stamina, enhance mobility, release tension, and support the nervous system. My goal for any movement practice is for you to leave your mat feeling strong, connected and calm.
Nutrition guidance centered around consuming whole, plant-based foods to nourish your body with an abundance of nutrients that come straight from the Earth, with a balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats to support hormones, immune system, and digestion.
Mindfulness practices, such as guided meditations, affirmations, journal prompts and reflections, to keep you focused and on track with what supports you throughout each day.
Embodiment is what makes it all last. An identity shift removing the idea that your healthy habits are things you are on or off track with. Discipline fails long-term because inevitably life will bring changes and challenges that will make any routine you are following suddenly impossible to keep up with. But a devotion to taking care of yourself is a lifelong commitment. It means no matter what comes your way, you show up making choices in the way you move, eat and treat yourself that are for your ultimate good. Your specific workouts, meals and other wellness practices will change depending on your season of life. Your commitment stays the same. You choose yourself, always picking the best options to support you in any given situation. This is where wellness isn’t something you fall away from. It is what you rise into.
